ELECTRA IRP at the Smart Energy Workshop

  cossmic sgBW

VITO will present the ELECTRA Web-of-Cells architecture at the Smart Energy Workshop in Konstanz (Germany) at July 14th 2015.

This workshop is a joint organization of the SmartGridsBW-Platform and the European Project consortium CoSSMic (Collaborating Smart Solar-powered Micro-grids) and will be attended by scientists, component suppliers, utility companies and system operators to discuss innovative technologies and approaches to integrate a high fraction of renewable energy.
This workshop provides an excellent opportunity to engage with other leading Euopean projects, such as CoSSMic, IDE4L and evolvDSO as well as industry stakeholders to explain the ELECTRA proposed Web-of-Cells architecture, the rationale behind it and the technical challenges. The learnings and feedback that we receive this way will be input for further fine-tuning of the web-of-cells concept.

Important contribution of the ELECTRA team to the smart grid session.

Luciano Martini, RSE, delivered the key note-speech "Introduction to the SET-Plan and the Needed European Research on Smart Grids". Moreover oral presentations have been delivered by Andrei Morch, Sintef, and Irina Oleinikova, IPE.

Presentations are available for download.

ELECTRA IRP / GRID4EU Joint Technical Workshop

electra grid4eu An ELECTRA IRP - GRID4EU Joint Workshop is organised in Brussels on 30th March 2015.

This joint technical workshop between the two EU projects address short/medium term solutions as well as long term solutions related to a more active grid management, especially at medium and low voltage level, necessitated by the rapidly increasing level of renewable energy generation.

The new control concepts proposed by ELECTRA and the experiences from GRID4EU demos are discussed and the DSOs point of view on requirements of future control rooms gathered by means of a questionnaire.

The event demonstrates the good cooperation between the projects, bridging short/medium term deployable solutions to long term radically new solutions. It as well illustrates the collaboration between the scientific community and the utilities in Europe and fosters the sharing of experience and knowledge between these two types of Smart Grids stakeholders.

ELECTRA IRP - EvolvDSO Technical Workshop

Joint-Electra-EvolvDSO-001A joint workshop Electra/EvolvDSO will be held in Brussel on April 15th - 10.00-16.30.

This is a very important opportunity to truly engage with industry stakeholders (esp. DSOs) to explain in more detail Electra proposed web-of-cells concept, the rationale behind it, and the technical control challenges as well as a preliminary view on the Electra solutions. Moreover the DSOs point of view on requirements of future control rooms will be discussed and gathered by means of a questionnaire.

Such industry feedback can be a crucial input to further steer and prioritize the Electra activities, and is strongly recommended by Electra Project Officer and by the project reviewers. Next to being of extreme value for Electra, it is of high interest for the EvolvDSO project partners as well, to serve as input for their discussions related to ‘the future role of DSOs’.

ELECTRA IRP - ETP WG1 Joint Workshop on Network Operation for 2030+

Flyer immagineAn ELECTRA IRP - ETP Working Group 1 “Network operation and assets” Joint Workshop was organised at Van Maerlant Building (VMA) in Brussels on 17th December. The Workshop, entitled “Network Operation for 2030+”, was subdivided into three sections and gave an insight on the latest research activities on “Inertia and grid stability with high penetration of DG and storage”, “Operational flexibility and ancillary services” and “Observability and system integration”.

The workshop material is publicly available and can be found here.
