TECNALIATECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION (www.tecnalia.com) is a private, independent, non profit applied research centre of international excellence. Legally a Foundation, Tecnalia is the leading private and independent research and technology organisation in Spain and one of the largest in Europe, employing 1,419 people (164 PhDs) and with income of 110 Million € in 2013.
TECNALIA is a key agent in the ERA - European Research Area, holding position 20th in the 2012 European Research Ranking. TECNALIA actively participates in the governing bodies of several European Technology Platforms and partners in 377 FP7 projects, coordinating 81 of them. TECNALIA is a member of EARTO and of EUROTECH, linking together the most important research centres in Europe.
The TECNALIA's Smart Grids team works within the Energy and Environment Division aimed at generating and developing business opportunities for utilities and their equipment and services suppliers through designing and developing radical solutions for the progressive transition from the current electrical systemsto the 2050 smart power systems
TECNALIA test facilities for smart grids are organized around INGRID - TECNALIA Smart Grids Laboratory and Interoperability Centre
The key research and testing activities of this laboratory are: advanced power system architectures, microgrids for buildings and districts, new power converters for grid connection, smart metering and grid automation, electric mobility (infrastructure, V2G), demand side management and demand response.

TECNALIA's Role in ELECTRA IRP: TECNALIA leads WP3 "Scenarios and case studies for future power system operation" and within this work package, is leading the task 3.1 "Futures identification and analysis of requirements" which is intended to pave the way for the rest of the project. Additionally TECNALIA participates in work packages 5, 6 and 8 by developing systems for State estimation, technical restrictions analysis, automatic restoration and network situation visualization, and in the validation phase with its laboratory facilities.
