WP 4 - Fully Interoperable Systems
The role of WP4 is to translate the concepts (business layer specification) of the overall voltage and frequency control in WP3 as well as the concepts of the monitoring system (WP5) and the control system (WP6) into detailed technical specifications encompassing all layers of the SGAM model such that WP5 and WP6 are able to make the required implementations and WP7 is able to make the integration and testing of the overall solution.
The main objectives of this work package are:
• Create the detailed specifications of fully interoperable monitoring and control systems for future Smart Grids
• Participate in standardization activities to ensure that the proposed solutions of ELECTRA are aligned with existing standards and ongoing work in standardization organisations
The partners in WP4 are responsible to elaborate the detailed specifications of the modules and interfaces that should ensure the interoperability between the systems of DSO´s, TSO´s, aggregators, producers, retailers, consumers and possibly other stakeholders that play a role in the overall electricity system. As such, WP4 will build on the high level business layer specification from WP3 and the concepts that will be worked out in WP5 and WP6. The functional specifications that result from WP3 should describe the principles of the control system for the overall electricity system and the role of each stakeholder therein and also represent crucial inputs for activities in WP5 and WP6 where they will develop advanced monitoring and control systems (WP5 and WP6) that will be used by stakeholders like DSO´s, TSO´s, aggregators, etc. each of which should comply with the interfaces that describe the interoperability between DSO´s, TSO´s, aggregators, etc.
Then WP4 will integrate the high level specifications of the advanced monitoring and control methods developed in WP5 and WP6 in a functional architecture for the whole system based on the framework of Smart Grid Architecture Model (SGAM) that has been worked out for that purpose by the Smart Grid Coordination Group (SG-CG) of CEN/CENELEC/ETSI under M/490. In addition to the existing M/490 work, where the functional architecture has been intentionally left out, the project is going to provide an adoption of the SGAM and extend it with real life mapping of components and system with standardized interfaces.
One could say that while WP5 and WP6 develop systems for each of the stakeholders, WP4 describes the system of systems from a functional viewpoint that should guarantee the semantic and functional interoperability between the various economical stakeholders in the global electricity system. Moreover, ELECTRA will establish close links with other ongoing FP7 EU projects that are applying the SGAM method to model regional demos, in order to exchange use cases, specific modelling paradigms, lessons learned from applying SGAM and standards in general. In practice, these links will be assured by ELECTRA partners active in these projects, hence by RSE participating to GRID4EU and by OFFIS participating to DISCERN.
WP4 Tasks:
• T4.1: Definition of methodology for the specification of functional architectures
• T4.2: Detailed specification of the functional architecture of systems of the smart grid stakeholders by interworking with WP3, WP5, WP6
• T4.3: Standards applicable to smart grid interfaces
• T4.4: Security issues and solutions
• T4.5: Support for implementation activity in WP5/6 and lab demonstration activity in WP7
